Tusar is recuperating after surgery |
|
Maharram Ali is 35 years old rickshaw puller
living at Bhagolpur village of Bazitpur sub
district under Kisoregonj district. His family
consists of his wife and four sons. Maharram
Ali's youngest son Tusar who was the apple of
his eyes was born with a congenital anomaly on
his left leg. Soon after his birth, Maharram Ali
took his son to a local doctor who told him that
this is a congenital anomaly called “Club foot“ which can be treated through surgery in the
nearest medical college hospital. Let alone
taking his son to the nearest district town, he
did not even afford to go there as the nearest
medical college hospital is 120 kilometer from
his village. Upon hearing this, he returned home
frustrated and disappointed. He almost left the
hope of treating his son |
|
|
|
| |
|
Suddenly fate smiled on him. During harvesting
season, Maharram Ali went to the Chamrarghat for
seasonal job. One day, he was working in a
rice field with his co-farmers and suddenly one
small baby caught his attention. The baby was
playing in his mother’s lap. The baby has the
same type of deformity as his son has. He
approached the mother and asked whether she went
anywhere for the treatment of her child. The
mother replied" Yes, I took my daughter to "Jibon
Tari" which is anchored at Chamrarghat now and
they gave me a date for surgery next week ". Upon hearing this, Maharram Ali saw a ray of
hope. Next day morning he went to "Jibon Tari"
at Chamrarghat . But he became disappointed
again when he heard that "Jibon Tari" has ended
its activities at Chamrarghat and he has to go
to next location of "Jibon Tari" if he wants to
avail the services. "Jibon Tari" authority gave
him a mobile number and told him to communicate
after two weeks.
Accordingly, he communicated with out patient
organizer of "Jibon Tari" over mobile and he was
told to come for admission for surgery of his
beloved son Tushar. His joy knew no bounds.
One day, he along with his beloved son Tusar and
his wife went to "Jibon Tari" at Monipura
bazaar. Medical officer of "Jibon Tari"
examined his son Tusar and he was admitted for
surgery the same day. Medical officer of "Jibon Tari" was also kind enough to allow his
wife to stay with his son in the hospital.
Next day morning, surgery was done on Tushar’s
left leg. After surgery, the visiting
orthopedic surgeon from Dhaka assured Maharram
Ali that deformity of Tusar's leg will be
completely corrected.
Maharram Ali is a very happy man now. His son is
free from the curse of disability for the sake
of "Jibon Tari".

Anjumonoara ,at the time
of discharge from Jibon Tari
Anjumonoara is leading a normal life after surgery. |
|
A woman is warded off husband in all her
jeopardy. Be it storm, rain, cyclone or
earthquake wife remains impassive burying
herself on the warm chest of her husband. But
this unmolested life did not last long in
Anjumonoara's life when she lost her husband at
the tender age of 20 who hails from Manikkathi
village at Rahmatpur of Babuganj sub-district
under Barisal district.
Anjumonoara is now 40. Her husband died of liver
cancer in 1984. There was nothing left for her
to get her back scratched. She did not inherit
anything from her husband to earn her
livelihood. The journey of survival began. She
went to Dhaka in hopes of escaping misery.
Because of being totally devoid of academic
track Anjumonoara had to opt for working as a
housemaid. She earned a meager amount of money
at the cost of untold sufferings.
|
|
| |
|
The days were passing by in great hardship. The
situation got worse when she discovered her
difficulty in catching sight of distant things.
Her vision started getting blurred gradually and
she became blind by the middle of 2002. The new
phase of suffering began. Even begging was
impossible for a visually impaired woman. The
cruel reality forced her to return to her home
in Manikkathi with nothing left but craving for
death.
The
fortune smiled on Anjumonoara when she heard
about Impact “Jibon Tari” hospital. The gray of
hope crossed her mind when she heard from the
local people that eye lenses are implanted in to
the eye of poor patients at ‘Jibon Tari’.
She could not bottle up her excitement and
approached the eye-doctor in out patient clinic
of Jibon Tari- . The doctor examined her and
diagnosed her eye problem as cataract. She was
admitted in Jibon Tari floating hospital and
her cataract surgery was performed. When her
bandage was opened the spectrum of light fell on
her face. "I can see, I can see!"
She screamed joyously. She was released and she
got back to “Jibon Tari” a month later for
another eye operation. Her successful operation
on her another eye was performed in due time as
suggested by Medical Officer of “Jibon Tari”.
She told that she has no problem with her both
eyes at all. At present she is working in the
spinning mill again. |
